Numerical model of energy dissipation and shallow-water sloshing motions in tank under different coupled excitations

Abstract Shallow-water sloshing motions in a three-dimensional rectangular tank are investigated. The Boussinesq-type equations terms of velocity potential and the finite-difference scheme applied for solutions numerical model. Through linking rate decay wave amplitudes to energy dissipation due friction at walls, linear damping term is proposed added into free surface boundary condition. Taking under excited frequencies near lowest natural frequency, maximum transient steady-state wall presented verified by experimental results given literature. characteristics different coupled excitations studied. indicate that surge-sway lead weaker nonlinear than single degree freedom excitations. intersection crest lines finally tend diagonal line with amplitudes. And irregular oscillations appear corners surge-sway-roll-pitch-yaw harmonic motions.
